Opposition Reacts To Throne Speech
 
The Trudeau government's throne speech is drawing praise and criticism from the official opposition leader.

Rona Ambrose says she's encouraged by a commitment to improve relations with aboriginals, as well as a promise of legislation to help survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Ambrose, however, also complains that the document is about ``big government and big spending,'' and says that likely means Canadians will be hit with higher taxes.
 
 
No More Heckling in House of Commons - Former Manitoba Speaker Reacts
 
Geoff Regan, the new Speaker of the House of Commons, says one of his goals is to get rid of heckling in the House.

But George Hickes, former speaker in the Manitoba legislature, says it won't be that easy.

Hickes, who did the job for 12 years, says politicians get passionate about certain issues and will speak up to voice their opinion sometimes when other people are speaking.

He says he found the best way to deal with it was to call up the party leader and ask them to remind their members about proper decorum.
 
 
Canada Ill-Prepared to Handle Aging Population
 
A warning is being sounded by a think-tank, which says the provinces seem ill-prepared for Canada's aging population and the looming financial challenges.

The Calgary-based Manning Centre says over the last five years, the federal government has been examining the situation and the long-term financial impact.

However, the centre says when it asked each province what they're doing to prepare, none had any information.
 
 
Winnipeg's "Box of Rocks" Business Booming
 
A Winnipeg mom's home-based business has exploded overnight after being featured on the websites of actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz.

Keira Fogg came up last year with the idea for her ``Little Box of Rocks'' business, for which she sells healing crystals in personalized boxes.

Orders for came flying in after the two Hollywood stars featured the business on their holiday gift lists.
Since the exposure, Fogg is now sending out 100 orders a day. Her next step is expanding the business out of her home and into a new location.
