Belgian Capital On Lockdown
The Belgian capital is on a security lockdown after the terror alert in the Brussels area was raised to its highest level.
Prime Minister Charles Michel says the move was taken after authorities received what he calls "quite precise information'' that Brussels may be the target of an attack like the one that killed 130 people in Paris last weekend.
Authorities say the situation in Brussels is "serious,'' but under control.
The city's subway is closed today, and the streets are patrolled by heavily-armed police and soldiers.
University Of Winnipeg Mandatory Indigenous Classes
Starting next year, students at the University of Winnipeg will have to take a course about aboriginal people in order to graduate.
The school's senate has unanimously approved making it mandatory for all students to take an indigenous course.
There will be a variety of courses to choose from and the number of credit hours required to graduate won't change.
Former Red River College President Paid
Manitoba's education minister says he has no idea why Red River College paid its former president 525-thousand dollars in salary and benefits during her final 14 months on the job.
Stephanie Forsyth was paid 245-thousand dollars for two months work at the beginning of the 2014-15 fiscal year, when she and the college parted ways by mutual agreement.
A provincial review concluded Forsyth made questionable spending decisions, filed questionable personal expenses and fired or forced out 16 senior executives at a cumulative cost of 3-point-7 million dollars.
Education Minister James Allum said it would be inappropriate for him to comment on the compensation paid to Forsyth, who now resides in British Columbia.
One Week Anniversary of Paris Attacks
Parisians took to the streets of the French capital last night to pay tribute to the 130 people killed in last weekend's terrorist attacks.
Some held hands in silence, while others lit candles, laid flowers, kissed, sang, and danced.
For security reasons, large gatherings like last night's are not allowed in Paris for the next three months, but police made an exception in this case.
