Response To Paris Attacks Must Follow The Law, Says UN Secretary General

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is warning the international community that its response to the Paris attacks must be legal and respect human rights.

He told a news conference at the G-20 summit in Turkey that otherwise, the response would simply perpetuate a cycle of violence.

At the request of France, the European Union will hold a special meeting of its interior and justice ministers on Friday to assess the impact of the Paris attacks.

Changes To Doctor Assisted Death Panel

A federal panel created after the Supreme Court ruling on assisted death will no longer be asked to make recommendations to the government.

It will now simply report on its consultations on the issue.

A statement from Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and Health Minister Jane Philpott indicates that, along with the modified mandate, the deadline date for the report has been extended by a month to December 15th.

The former Conservative government established the panel in July.

It faced criticism because two of its three members were federal witnesses who argued against assisted suicide when the case was heard.

It's not clear exactly what they discussed, but the meeting came as the two nations and other countries pursue a new diplomatic plan to try to end Syria's civil war.

The leaders were joined by Obama's national security adviser and a Russian aide.
