Dauphin won't be stopping at just one bronze statue... nor is it stopping at two.

Mayor Eric Irwin says the Rotary Club is behind a bronze statue celebrating literacy going up outside the library in the next month or so; he says three statues are in the works right now and there are discussions about more.

"The City, in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of the Ukrainian Festival paid for the first one, it was all-in around $50,000 for 50 years of the festival, and that's the one beside the train station honouring the young pioneers. And the rest of it we're more or less a facilitator, with respect to the rest of them. You know, we've got to pay for some plaques and some installations and so on, but all of these other groups are putting up most of the money."

If you include the pioneer statue in CN Park, Irwin says a round value for the four statues is probably around $320,000 with the city paying about $60,000.
