Hydro Crews Making Repairs After Storm

Manitoba Hydro has some work to do in the Parkland due to storms but power is on for the most part.

Hydro says one customer is without power in Silver Ridge, but that is being worked on right now.

Otherwise, a broken neutral wire needs to be repaired in Grandview and trees need to be cleared off lines in Dauphin but neither of those are affecting power.

Hydro tweeted last night that storms caused outages in Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Roblin, and other areas.

Weather Not Helping Fight Against Fires In Saskatchewan

The weather is remaining unco-operative for crews battling wildfires in northern Saskatchewan.

Some rain is in the forecast, but officials say scattered showers don't help much.

They say a whole new weather system with cooler temperatures and much more moisture is needed to turn things around.

There's one bit of good news for people whose communities have not been threatened by the flames, but are cut off behind fire lines.

Those residents were being allowed to go home yesterday as part of a convoy through the fire zone north of La Ronge.

Man Killed In Boating Collision

A man is dead after the boat he was operating on the Winnipeg River struck a rocky shore near Lac du Bonnet.

RCMP investigators say the boat was heading from the middle of the river at a high rate of speed.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from East St. Paul, was the only person in the boat.

Police say alcohol is being considered a contributing factor.

Police Seek Saskatchewan Prisoners

RCMP in Saskatchewan are trying to find two prisoners who walked away from the minimum-security Willow Cree Healing Lodge near Duck Lake.

Thirty-one-year-old Conrad Slippery and 25-year-old Anthony Ernest were last seen at the federal institution yesterday afternoon.

A white GMC Yukon was seen in the area around the time they disappeared.

RCMP ask that anyone who sees the men not approach them, but call police.

Prime Minister Discusses Economy

Prime Minister Harper says Canada's economy is in "a downturn,'' which he blames on external factors.

Harper says those include low oil prices as well as economic slumps in the US, China, and Europe.

He says his government won't get into stimulus spending because that would lead to a budget deficit.

Harper adds that corporate taxes won't be raised because that would prompt businesses to curb investment.
