A restoration project will soon be taking place at the recreation area in Winnipegosis.

According to Kate Basford, Head of Council for the RM of Mossey River, the main goal of the project is to reduce flooding problems in the beach and campsite.

"The road that horseshoes around the campsite will actually be raised and it will act as a dam of sorts so that the campsites will not be destroyed. Also all the little buildings and kiosks that were on the beach side, they will be rebuilt, but they will be built on a platform that is higher than the highest flood level."

As for the cost of the project, Basford says ratepayers won’t have to worry about that.

"Right now we're looking at $300,000 to complete all of this, and again this is EMO money and so it's not any of our money coming out of it. We put the money upfront and the government gives it all back to us."

Work on the project will commence following the Winnipegosis Centennial which takes place next week.
